  • How Does a Tracer Unit Work?

A tracer unit is an accessory that attaches to the muzzle of your airsoft replica, typically using 14mm CCW threads. The unit detects each BB as it passes through and instantly illuminates it with UV light, causing compatible tracer BBs to glow in the dark. This allows players to see the trajectory of their shots, especially during low-light or nighttime games.

  • What Do You Need?

Everything required to operate the tracer unit itself is usually included in the box. However, you must use tracer BBs for the effect to work. Standard BBs cannot be illuminated and therefore will not glow or be visible in flight.

  • How Do You Turn It On?

The activation method depends on the model:

    • Shake-to-wake models automatically power on when movement is detected.
    • Other units feature a button on the front or rear that allows you to switch the device on or off and cycle through the available operating modes.
  • Flame or No Flame?

Tracer units with a flame function produce a bright flash of light at the front of the unit, simulating a realistic muzzle flash when firing. This effect enhances the appearance and immersion of your replica but does not significantly increase the brightness of the illuminated BB itself.

If a tracer unit does not include a flame feature, it will still illuminate tracer BBs normally, but without the simulated muzzle flash effect.

  • Integrated Chronograph

Some tracer units include a built-in chronograph, allowing you to measure your replica's performance on the go.

The chronograph measures the speed of each BB as it leaves the barrel. By entering the BB weight, the device can automatically calculate the muzzle energy and display it in Joules (J). This makes it easy to verify that your replica complies with field limits without needing a separate chronograph.

    Common measurements include:

    • Velocity: FPS (Feet Per Second) or m/s (Meters Per Second)
    • Energy: Joules (J)
    • BB Weight: User-selectable for accurate calculations
